Many folks have an urge to paint, but haven't yet taken the plunge.
Or perhaps you've painted on and off over the years, but need a bit more encouragement to take it up again. Acrylics for Beginners is your chance to do just that.
Spend two days in beautiful, historic York at the same time enjoying painting and teaching with artist Lesley Birch in a central location in York. Book yourself a lovely boutique hotel or a nearby B & B, eat in the many cafes around York, visit Yorkminster and Clifford's Tower and enjoy painting with Lesley.
This is a two-day course in easy reach of York city centre with all materials and morning and afternoon refreshments. Bring a packed lunch to enjoy in the nearby Museum gardens or visit one of the nearby cafes in York.
Please note that this is a beginners acrylics course. This is not a course for those wishing to seriously develop their work. What will we be doing? - We'll be dipping into a selection of exercises on your course - here's a few: how to use the paint properly with brushes and with palette knives, working with only a few colours, making our own small paintings on paper and on canvas, painting a landscape format, drawing with charcoal, preparing paper to paint on, playing with BIG brushes, painting objects ... If weather permits, we may be able to catch some inspiration from the nearby Museum Gardens. You'll leave with a painting or two and perhaps a selection of your own specially painted greetings cards.

WHAT ARE ACRYLICS?
Acrylic paint is a fast-drying paint made of pigment suspended in acrylic polymer emulsion. Acrylic paints are water-soluble, but become water-resistant when dry. They are easy to use - a bit like those poster paints you may have used at school, but with GREAT colours. You can paint thin with loads of water or thickly like butter. You can paint on paper or canvas and play around as much as you like. They DRY quickly and so if you don't like your painting, you can go over it with white and start again! What's not to like!
