Want to further your experience of acrylics? Maybe you've been on my first-time acrylics course and want to continue your journey. Or maybe you've been painting for a while and just want to extend the possibilities of acrylics. Either way, this course will suit anyone interested in developing their painting skills using acrylic mediums, textures and mixed media.
In this day course you will continue your colour knowledge by making tones and tints with a limited palette. You'll experiment with different texture and gel mediums, building painting surfaces and 'playing with paint'. You'll work on several pieces at a time on paper and canvas inspired by still life and the surrounding gardens of the Dutch House. We will use the workshop studio area in the Kunsthuis Gallery at The Dutch House. We will also walk around the gardens sketching and looking for inspiration. There are some lovely landscape views around the site. More details below ...

CONTINUING ACRYLICS
developing skills in using mediums, textures, surfaces and mixed media with acrylics
Thursday July 9th, 10.30-3.30pm
MORNING - In the morning you’ll play with a limited palette of three colours looking at tints and tones. You'll experiment with mark-making on textured surfaces using textured gels and mediums. You'll get a 'feel' for using these mediums at the same time as painting from a still life. You'll work on several pieces at a time on paper.
AFTERNOON - In the afternoon we'll work on one painting. To do this, depending upon the weather, we'll walk around the Dutch House’s stunning gardens. We'll observe, make rough sketches and then return to the studio to paint on one canvas. Working on one piece, we'll build upon our knowledge from the morning using mediums as well as charcoal, pencils and crayons with the acrylic.
You should leave with a number of 'starter' pieces, one main piece and extended knowledge of mediums, techniques and tools.
if you've any questions please email: [email protected]

ABOUT THE DUTCH HOUSE
"When I moved to York in 2010 I was excited to discover this special place 15 miles outside of York in the lovely village of Crayke. The setting is gorgeous with an unusual eco garden to explore around red-roofed old buildings. You feel you're in Italy in the height of summer. The buildings house a cafe with home made tarts and speciality savoury and sweet Dutch pancakes. There is an art studio and Kunsthuis Gallery where regular exhibitions take place. This is one of my favourite places in Yorkshire." Lesley Birch 2014
