FIRST TIME ACRYLICS
a full packed day of learning
covering complimentary colour mixing, 'feeling' the use of paint, brush & palette knife;
responding to a still life, working on textured canvas and paper, sketching,
producing several pieces of work, refreshments and lunch
MORNING - In the morning you’ll learn how to mix colours and apply paint using different tools such as palette knives and brushes. Acrylics are a water-based paint and you'll develop confidence in dipping the brush in the water and wiping with a rag. It's all about practice and play. You'll paint from a still life on paper and on canvas. You'll look at postcards of artists' work - Cezanne, Matisse, Picasso - to help you when you're stuck.
AFTERNOON - In the afternoon depending upon the weather, inspired by the Dutch House’s stunning gardens, you will learn to observe, make rough sketches and then paint more pieces using this quick-drying and simple, colourful medium. You may wish to continue in the studio with your morning still life. It's intended that you leave with a piece of art to take home and frame.
“I think it's important just to play around with the paint, making marks and enjoying the colours" Lesley Birch
So why not come along for a day of painting where Lesley will guide you through your creative journey...
NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY ALL MATERIALS PROVIDED - Just bring yourself.
This course would suit beginners or refreshers to acrylics.
Student Comments from 2014: "Fantastic - great use of colours and texture." "Learnt so much and fab food." "A Wonderful day."
MORE ABOUT THE DUTCH HOUSE
"When I moved to York in 2010 I was excited to discover this special place 15 miles outside of York in the lovely village of Crayke. The setting is gorgeous with an unusual eco garden to explore around red-roofed old buildings. You feel you're in Italy in the height of summer. The buildings house a cafe with home made tarts and speciality savoury and sweet Dutch pancakes. There is an art studio and Kunsthuis Gallery where regular exhibitions take place. This is one of my favourite places in Yorkshire." Lesley Birch 2014
