NEW PAINTINGS 2021
COLOUR & EXPRESSION
"I have been compelled to go into explosions of colour, building up layers of paint over time, telling my stories of land and earth and sometimes not adding a mark for months. This long time-frame has created a history of layers of paint drying over time imbued with texture and expression. I like to scrape through the surface, sculpting down to what's beneath to discover faded moments. These oils sit in my studio on window ledges, on shelves and on the floor over periods of months and even years, until I decide when they are asking me to make the next move. They come from changing seasons, walks along rivers and shores from St Ives to Yorkshire and finally to Scotland where Dad's boat - a simple vessel shape, appears, his spirit soaring through the paint."
